3 days in a Romantic Hotel ( by Sophie in Hotel Relais Madeleine, France )

My beloved and I have stayed in a wonderful place during our last stay in Paris, The Hotel Le Relais Madeleine. This is a charming hotel located a few paces away from the Madeleine Church, the Opera and the place de la Concorde.

I was really surprising by the size of the bedrooms' hotel, which are larger than all the bedrooms that I had during my other travels in Paris.
The decor of the bedrooms are really flowerly and romantic with a perfect comfort.
I really recommend this hotel and I think I will go back again in June, for the Concert of Paul Anka in Paris since the Hotel creates a package for the event!
We liked:
The patio of the hotel where you can savour a delightful french breakfast.
The sauna to relax after a long day of visit.
The colorful interior design which reminds the South of France.

Above the Côte d'Azur ( by Scottishrose01 in Nice, France )

After lunch in Peille, my cousins and I continued our one-day sojourn among the mountaintop medieval villages of the Cote d’Azur. Our next stop was the historic “perched” village of Sainte Agnés, a member since 1997 in the association called “Les plus beaux villages de France (The most beautiful villages in France). To get there, we backtracked from Peille on D53 to the intersection with D22, a spectacular route across the mountaintops with amazing views of the sparkling blue Mediterranean far below.
(The data in the following paragraph is taken from “the Official Site for Sainte Agnés)
Situated on a rocky peak at almost 800 m of altitude close to the Italian border and only 3 km from the Mediterranean (10 km by road), this historic village overlooks the Bay of Menton and offers one of the most breathtaking panoramas of the French Riviera.
This special mixture of sea and mountain is underscored by the vegetation of silver colored olive trees and mimosas close to sea...

Shanghai Expo Mascot ( by beijingguide in Beijing, China )

Designing concept of the mascot

Like the mascots for huge worldwide events such as Olympics and World Cup, the mascot of World Expo is very important for interpreting the theme and expressing the culture. The emblems and images of past World Expos have turned into the unique intangible legacy. The World Expo mascots have not only become the representatives of Expo images, but also embody the culture and spirit of hosting countries and cities.

Mascot, as the symbol featuring the hosting country, will embody the history, development, culture, concept and social background of the country and will play an important role in the communication in political, economical and cultural fields.

The mascot of World Expo 2010 Shanghai China is trying to accomplish the following functions:

1. To embody the culture of the hosting country

World Expo 2010 Shanghai China is a global event that is hosted by China and undertaken by the city of Shanghai. It is the first time that a developin...

Sunset Inn is not so sunny! (Jacksonville, NC) ( by Sweet_Travels in North Carolina (historical), United States )

Sunset Inn is located in the middle of Jacksonville, NC. The location is actually in a great spot because there are many restaurants across the street. However, if you are looking for a nice place to stay where it is quiet, do not come here.

The price ranges from $65-$80, offering double or king rooms. They also have a suite that is about $120 that is not exactly worth it. They honor discounts such as military, corporate, AAA, AARP, and they offer a weekly rate that lowers the rate to $50 a night.

The most quiet and private location would be on the backside of the property. They offer security on the weekends, and that is because they need it. On the weekends, they are dealing with some of the military that often parties and cause commotion.

Unfortunately, there are other things that you need to be aware of; things such as criminal activities have been reported along with escort services.

The only amenities they offer are their continental breakfast. Their continental...

Lovely Howick ( by MrsAudreyPat in Howick, South Africa )

I visited Howick last summer and found it to be a truly delightful place.
The people I met there were so helpful and friendly, especially a gentleman named Erwin.
I visited many of the local attractions and it was most pleasurable. It is a great pity that my late husband, Archibald, was no longer able to share my enjoyment.
I saw the notes by Mr Cornelius and concur with him entirely, but I do not know where he saw a person such as the one in the photograph.
Perhaps it was taken during a carnival, as I am sure that the majority of residents in Howick do not dress in that manner.
I shall look forward to visiting this lovely town again.

Madrid to Sevilla - Dodging travel's perils ( by fakemexican in Madrid, Spain )

Echos of last week's tragic air disaster in Madrid's Barajas airport were still resonating through Spain's capital as I arrived on an early morning flight. Descending over the arid landscape, pock-marked by a few hardy, dark-green shrubs, I dared not look out of my window as we came in to land. The grief was still palpable yet effectively masked by the uncharacteristic industriousness of the airport staff (I disembarked, passed immigration and collected my bag all in under five minutes; surely some sort of record).

Madrid seemed to welcome me back like an old friend, her familiar sun-kissed streets and tapas bars proving irresistable to a hungry traveller. A cold beer accompanied by fresh, juicy olives and leaf-thin jamon serrano being the ideal antidote to the 35 degree afternoon heat.

Lief vir Howick ( by Cornelius in Howick, South Africa )

At first we had intended to simply pass through Howick en route to our destination, but on our arrival it was clear we could not simply zip through this wondrous place. You can feel the atmosphere before you can even see the city limits. The ambience is simply breathtaking and I was very close to not leaving at all. Among the sights are the world famous Midmar dam (at which long distance swims are often the highlight of the sporting calendar, as well as fishing, and lazing), and the must-see waterfall.
A tour of the town is recommended and you will take in the sights in under a few hours, before retiring to the local bar for some much needed beers and befriending the locals. This is an essential stop on any South Africa visit, and in our humble opinions should have been a location for a World Cup stadium, such is its cultural and geographical charm.
