The final part of a fantastic two and a half week break with my girlfriend's family to Orlando was a few days on Disney's themed cruise liner.
Now being a bloke (deep voice), uh hum, I shouldn't enjoy these kinds of things. But I have to say it was a brilliant few days. From start to finish everything was of such a high standard and the attention to detail aboard the ship was superb.
The best part for me was the single day spent on Disney's private island 'Castaway Cay' in the Bahamas. The weather was absolutely brilliant and the surroundings were just awesome. As it is owned exclusively by Disney the theme overlaps onto the island as well, so it is still very much part of the Disney experience.
There are a good few excursions available on the island and being a keen fisherman I wasn't about to pass up the opportunity to go fishing in the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean ($117 each). I wasn't disappointed. The waters are protected and are totally unspoilt. I tell you, we were out in water 80 foot deep and I could see the sea bed no problem. You could see squid bait clearly on the end of your line. Brilliant.
The experience included, spotting a reef shark cooly cruise under the boat and witnessing a relentless attack from a Barracuda on an unfortunate fish we had hooked and injured. Oops. We caught loads between us and the guys were really great on the boat, they knew their stuff. That excursion was enough for me, but there was more to do.
After nailing it back to shore in the boat, past the banana boaters ($30) swimming in the drink (erm, did they tell you about the sharks) we were off to the next excursion. Parasailing ($75 each).
Now, I don't mind heights but 1000 foot above the sea (remember the sharks and barracuda?) with not much of a passion for deep water did not seem too inviting. Was this a good idea? Um yup! It is so peaceful and awe-inspiring up there with breathtaking views that you just have to try it. Vertigo or not. When we were there we even got a fantastic view of the Flying Dutchman pirate ship as used in the film Pirates of the Caribbean. Our flight, as most, included a dip in the drink on the way back in, which was pretty darn refreshing.
The excursions had been excellent and I was hungry. No problem. Just eat all you can stomach at the BBQ. If you eat just one thing make it the gorgeous mahi mahi burgers, so nice and even now I wish I had gone and eaten one more.
To finish the day it was time to slow down and lie back on the beautiful beach and take a dip in the lovely warm salty bath that is the Caribbean.
The day as all others came to an end and it had been one of the most thrilling, relaxing and tiresome days ever. On the way back to the boat I still wondered if I could run back to the BBQ and grab another burger, but no, afraid not. They had wrapped up and closed the beaches.
As we left the port we got one more decent look at the Flying Dutchman followed by another beautiful sunset and that was that.
If you have the opportunity to go on the Disney cruise.
A. Make it the seven day so you get two trips to Castaway Cay.
B. Stay up 24/7 to see absolutely everything on the boat (you still won't)
and C. Eat your fill of mahi mahi.

Yes, they seem to have quite a few different ones. Quite an unusual touch, but pretty cool.

Sounds brilliant. Say what you will about Disney, but they do indeed make things magical!
