Wreck Diving in the Red Sea ( by jsikorsky in Sharm ash Shaykh, Egypt )

I'm an avid diver and love to dive wrecks. The best that I've dived so far has to be the Thistlegorm, which sunk not too far from Sharm al Sheik. When I go diving, I like to stay on a live-a-board yacht for a week, as you can maximise your dives. This is the best option for diving wrecks in the Red Sea.

The Thistlegorm was a supply ship during WWII and was sunk by enemy fire. The best part of this wreck is that all of the equipment is still in tact...so you can dive through the hull past jeeps, army boots, motorbikes and all of this other equipment. Being that it's only 35 meters deep, it's quite do-able for a relatively long period. You need to be advanced really, as it can get quite tricky navigating through the people and machines.

I've done this wreck about six times and always find something new when I go. The most amazing time was on a night dive. With only your torch lighting the way, it becomes exhilerating! Fish and other marine life come out at night that you don't ex...

Walking the Great Wall of China ( by jsikorsky in Beijing, China )

A few years ago I travelled to China to walk the great wall. It's something I've always wanted to do and a friend of mine prompted me to give it a go.

After being dropped off by a coach, we started walking on top of one of the main sections still standing. I was amazed by the length of the wall that you could see down the horizon. I was with a friend and we walked for about an hour until the wall started crumbling. Not too many people were walking that day, but mostly stayed around the bus drop off point.

I'd definitely recommend doing a walk, as it puts the wall into perspective and gets you away from the tourists.

Quiet Retreat in the Middle East ( by jsikorsky in Muscat, Oman )

Many people think of going to Dubai for a bit of relaxation and sun, with a bit of shopping thrown in. I'd recommend checking out Oman. It's a fantastic place if you want to get away from the crowds and just get some R&R.

I went with my partner and two friends and stayed at this amazing resort called The Chedi. Despite the fact that it is near a salt production plant, it's an amazing place that has paid attention to all details to make their guests welcome. The best part of this place is that it has an infinity pool with beds around the decking that hold up to four people each. It's very private and never once did I feel uncomfortable with the staff or the people there.

We ended up going diving one day, and you could also rent a private boat to take you on a tour along the coast. There are many private beaches that the boat will take you to, so we rented one for a half day and had the best time snorkling and just browsing up and down some of the secluded areas of the coast.

White Water Rafting down the Zambezi ( by jsikorsky in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe )

I was lucky enough to be sent on a safari tour with work that took us to Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia. We did the usual animal safaris, night drives and elephant back riding, but the pinnacle of the trip for me was going white water rafting down the Zambezi river, just at the bottom of Victoria Falls.

There were 16 of us that decided to brave the waters, so we made the 30 minute hike down the cliffs through the jungle until we arrived at a calm pool of the river. By this time, most un-fit people were exhausted, but we jumped right into the rafts and started our quick lesson on how to navigate and steer in the waters. Oh, and this is when they told us about the crocodiles that linger in the calmer waters....

After about 15 minutes, we headed down the first set of rapids. It was an exhilerating experience as we held on for our lives! We made it through the first set, but the guide then informed us that there were many more ahead....apparently that was a mild rapid we had just be...

Great White Shark Diving ( by jsikorsky in Cape Town, South Africa )

Imagine being in a tiny fishing boat in the middle of the ocean, no land in sight and you're in shark infested waters. The captain starts throwing fish parts behind the boat (chumming) hoping to attract these massive sharks so that they get closer and closer to the boat. Now imagine being told to suit up and jump in a cage!

Before actually deciding to cage dive, I did a bit of research to find the best company to go with. Apparently the locals said to find Shark Lady, but my friend ended up calling the wrong number and we were taken to another outfit nearby. As we already pre-booked and our only chance of going out on the boat was that day, we decided to go for it and try our luck. I was a bit hesitant after seeing the cage, as the bars were litterally no thicker than chicken wire! Well, maybe I'm exagerating a bit, but you get the idea. Once we were out in the middle of the ocean, I decided that if I didn't volunteer first, I probably wouldn't do it.....so in I went when we saw t...
