“My name’s Tiger. You girls like danger?”
An embarrassed silence and then, quickly, “yeah”
“Good. Danger’s my middle name.”
We should have known then really. A river guide whose name is Tiger Danger Something should have been enough of a clue, don’t you think? But no, young intrepid adventurers we were, we leapt aboard the vessel without a second thought.
It was terrifying.
The river wasn’t actually that bad- I can imagine a lot worse. Rather, it was the apparent total lack of regard from dear Tiger for the safety of himself or others. Over and over again, he steered us into the biggest rocks, the sharpest drops and the gnarliest stoppers. At one point he actually managed to totally sink the boat by filling it with water.
By the time we got the cliff-jumping challenge there was really no going back.

Ha ha! I had a similarly terrifying experience in Pai - the guides are insane! One threw me in river off a bamboo raft and thought it was hilarious. I didn't at the time, but great memories now!
