All my life I've wanted to see Lego forts as big as the Fort at Qait Bay in Alexandria. Driving up to the port area is fascinating as you pass through crowded streets filled with fruits, veggies, animals, and undies for sale, until you catch a glimpse of the great blue sea. The Mediterranean Sea captivates your senses with it's powerful contrast to the light brown sand color of the city.

Madisteps's travel blog in Alexandria, Egypt. She went on 25 of November 2006 for 1 day. She went for adventure, culture. Madisteps went with a friend. She got there and around by car or van, walking. madisteps's travel verdict is: recommended.
The broad seaside walkway makes for a perfect place to relax with your feet hanging over the water. The Fort itself is like a giant playhouse with hiding places, gun holds, and great vantage points. Soldiers "holding down the fort" could see for miles across the Sea, just waiting to spot the incoming forces.
The Fort at Qait Bay is easily reached by car or taxi and it is located close to the beach where you can find incredible mansions of the upper class.
During the summer, the people of Cairo flock to this beach side town to escape the sweltering heat. I went in November and found the weather to be perfect.
Alexandria is not an easy city to get around on foot or by yourself. Try to go with a group or hire your own tour guide.
