We went to Cappadocia during our honeymoon. We had a great guide who was Turkish and was speaking Polish surprisingly well (we are Polish). It was 2 days long trip from Side with the bus but it was definitely worth it.
Cappadocia is volcanic eruption rocks area. In first 2 centuries A.D. people realized they are soft and are good material for carving out whole cities in them. You can see lot of houses, churches and monasteries made in rocks there. You can read more about this region in wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cappadocia or here http://www.goreme.com/cappadocia.php
We have visited few cities like Göreme, Uchisar, Avanos, Urgup, Devrent and Imagination valley...
Göreme, Urgup, fascination valley:
We were also in underground city. You can read more about Cappadocia's undergound cities here http://www.turizm.net/cities/cappad...erground.htm but i do not have good photos from there.
On the way back we stopped at one of Caravanserais.
Caravanserais were something like motels for caravans with camels In medieval Seljuk times. Our caravanserai were situated by the huge volcanic hole filled with water. Guide told us that this hole is connected underground with other similar hole situated about 40 kilometers from this place.

Thanks Hugo! Cappadocia is intriguing not only on pictures, sometimes it looks like from some unknown planet. Even some scenes of StarWars have been filmed there.
BTW nice to meet you, finally ;)

Fantastic pics! I've been longing to go to Turkey for years, primarily Istanbul, but now I'm desperate to live in one of those rock houses. How cool.

Amazing pics! Coincidentally I was talking with a friend today who told me that I had to visit Cappadocia, and judging from your experience I can see why.

Really nice job with this MX. Did you do a whole tour of Turkey? Where else did you go?

Hey Jeannie. We went to Cappadocia during our honey-moon and we spent most of it at the seaside in Side. We had just one trip to Cappadocia. Greetings!

I've always wanted to go here, but it seems quite inaccessible. Is there a quicker way to get there, or do you actually recommend the journey as a part of the whole experience?

Alexandra, I spent 2 weeks at the seaside of Turkey in Side actually in Side and it was a great place for resting. They have beautiful long beaches, guaranteed weather and some interesting monuments from first centuries. Cappadocia is in the middle of Turkey, so you are right it is few hours of bus driving if you want to get there from seaside. If you wanted to see just Cappadocia, the clossest international Airport is in Ankara (second biggest city in Turkey), which I'm sure is also interesting. There is still I think about 300 km from there, but it is much closer. Yes, I definitely recommend Turkey as a whole experience, but everything is spreed there. The things I wanted to see there next time are Pamukale, Istanbul and Troy.
